In 1002 German king Henry II. gave some acres of land in the village of Loiben as a donation to the Bavarian monastery of Tegernsee. Today’s manor from the 12th century was used as a place for administration and storage by the Abbey of Tegernsee. In 1803 it became private property.

Today, Tegernseerhof is owned by the Mittelbach family. Martin Mittelbach is the fifth generation of the family to lead the winery. It is his declared goal to use the vineyards’ enormous potential to produce unique and distinguished wines. The Tegernseerhof vineyards are located on the best slopes of the Wachau region. They are characterized by steep terraces of primary rock, with optimal exposure to sun and wind.

The result is an incredible wealth of different aromas, reflected in the different wines. Whether Grüner Veltliner or Riesling, each wine has a personality all of its own.

Following ancient traditions, we use our own grape selections, chosen for their agility and vitality. Quality comes before quantity. Our wines reflect our values: they impress through their expression of vineyard and grape variety rather their alcohol or sugar content. Their finesse comes naturally, in our combination of soils, climate and traditional viniculture.
