Claus Preisinger
No risk – no fun – no fame – no glory.
Claus Preisinger is one of the most revered winegrowers not only in his home region of Northern Burgenland but in the entire world of wine. He is at the same time a figure head of biodynamic viticulture. Claus has been part of the well-known Pannobile group since 2004, has converted to biodyn principles in 2006 and is nowadays also member of the select group respekt-BIODYN comprising some of the best estates in Austria, Germany, Italy and Hungary.
Claus is striving for high standards and pure, authentic expressions in all of his work. Aesthetics come into mind whenever you talk to him or get to taste his wines and see the famous puristic labels! Some of their names focus on the importance of the surrounding nature and soils (KalkundKiesel – lime and gravel, ErdeLuftGrasundReben – soil, air, grass and vines), some point to the fun side of wine drinking (Dope, Puszta Libre..).
The Preisinger approach is one of hard manual work in the vineyards and subsequent low-intervention, low-tech processing of the harvested fruit in the cellar. Perfect grapes with balanced levels of ripeness, tannins and acidity do not require much of a fuss. According to the needs and character of a given variety or desired blend, the musts ferment spontaneously and are aged in various vessels (inox, large used oak barrels or amphorae) for as long as necessary. Careful macerations and extractions of healthy grapes, low or zero levels of SO2, no fining. Preisinger wines are wines with a personal touch, wines with a inimitable signature.
